Lai Kui Fang
A fundamentalist where art is concerned, Singapore Artist Dr Lai Kui Fang is apt at realism in his paintings. Further to his art training in Singapore, he went on to establish a high reputation as a world-class artist, portraitist & sculptor, and Paris-trained French scholar and holder of Knight/Officer of the French Order of Arts & Letters by the French government.
Behind the artworks of Dr Lai, there is a strong and older tradition of forward-looking change and hopeful acceptance of the new realities of social life. His paintings show stability of outlook and continuity of purpose. Many of Dr Lai’s portraits of Singapore leaders, street scenes, Singapore River, as well as monumental construction and land reclamation sites are outstanding artistic manifestations that have become important historical documents archiving the developing facets of life and times in Singapore.
