*About work*

Against a deep charcoal-grey background, scattered strokes of coral pink, yellow, green and
muted blue emerge with striking clarity. The loosely arranged colours suggest flowers and
foliage glimpsed in the fading light of evening.

Goh Beng Kwan makes effective use of the dark ground to heighten the brightness of the
pigments. The interplay of light and shadow creates depth, while the spontaneous
brushwork gives the composition a lively, almost mysterious character. Midnight Garden is
an atmospheric work, distinguished by its unusual palette and quiet drama.
